Are you feeling sad or blue because you think winter may never end? My feelings are more of disbelief with every new announcement of more snowfall. If these feelings are affecting your life style you may want to check with your doctor.

S.A.D. is caused by the  long dreary winter days without enough exposure to sunlight. It’s a true form of depression. I’m sure with the winter we have had this year there may be some extra cases.

How can you tell if you have S.A.D.?

Some symptoms are:

Sleep problems

Loss of libido

Depression-feelings of gloom

Craving carbohydrates and or sweets

Social problems –  not wanting to be around people

What can you do about it if you are feeling any of these things? See a doctor if you think you have S.A.D.

Teens Health recommends these five ways to fight depression.

1.) Exercise (15-30 minutes a day, everyday.)

2.) Nurture yourself with good nutrition

3.) Identify troubles, but don’t dwell on them

4.) Express yourself (use your imagination(painting, drawing, doodling, sewing, writing, dancing, composing music, etc.)

5.) Look on the bright side. (make the effort to notice the good things in life. Begin with one thing and challenge yourself to think of more.)

Remember depression takes time to heal.

Nope, thank goodness I don’t … just feel more energetic when it’s sunny and breezey. This is my reminder (very long range I admit) to ask your husband if it would be ok for me to view his upcoming art show, in May you said? Maryjo Maffessoli
